Amazon has announced plans to significantly expand its quick-commerce business in India, with the company targeting availability of Amazon Now in more than 300 cities across the country. The announcement follows Amazon’s recent milestone of expanding the service to 100 cities last month. According to the company, Amazon Now has become the fastest-growing e-commerce business unit in Amazon India’s history, with order volumes reportedly doubling every quarter since launch.
Amazon Building Its Largest Ultra-Fast Delivery Network in India
To support the aggressive expansion, Amazon plans to scale its specialized fulfillment infrastructure, including:
- Micro-fulfillment centers
- Urban fulfillment centers
- Localized inventory networks
- Fast last-mile delivery operations
The company says the expanded network will help create India’s largest ultra-fast delivery ecosystem while improving delivery speeds across a wider range of product categories.
Samir Kumar, Country Manager, Amazon India said, “Amazon Now is the fastest-growing ecommerce business unit in Amazon India’s history with orders having doubled every quarter since launch. We are seeing a great response from customers, especially Prime members who triple their shopping frequency once they start using Amazon Now. We have further accelerated our expansion and will offer ultra-fast deliveries to customers in over 300 cities of India. None of this is possible without our delivery associates who are at the heart of our ecommerce and quick commerce business, and I am excited as we launch ‘Sammaan’, a dedicated program focused on delivery associate welfare. It is our promise that as we grow faster, the people powering that speed grow with us, with better health and wellness, education support for their families, and a safer working environment every day.”

Amazon Now will operate using a layered delivery approach depending on customer urgency and product category.

Amazon says Amazon Now currently serves approximately 50 million customers across 15 metro and non-metro cities.
Supported locations include:
- Bengaluru
- Delhi-NCR
- Mumbai
- Pune
- Hyderabad
- Amritsar
- Kochi
The company plans to gradually expand coverage to hundreds of additional cities over the coming years.
During a recent visit to India, Andy Jassy visited one of Amazon’s micro-fulfillment centers and reviewed the operational model powering Amazon Now.
According to Amazon, the quick-commerce framework developed for India is now being evaluated and expanded into other international markets, highlighting the growing importance of India within Amazon’s global strategy.
The company, however, has not revealed a specific timeline for reaching its 300-city target.
Amazon Launches ‘Sammaan’ Welfare Program
Alongside the expansion announcement, Amazon also introduced Sammaan, a welfare initiative aimed at supporting delivery associates across its logistics network.
The program will be funded in part through Amazon India’s recently announced $300 million investment focused on operations and workforce well-being.

Ashray Rest Centers to Expand
Amazon also confirmed plans to expand its Ashray rest center network to 250 locations this year.
The facilities will provide delivery personnel with access to:
- Drinking water
- Seating areas
- Mobile charging points
- Rest facilities
Notably, the centers will be accessible to delivery workers across the broader e-commerce industry and not limited solely to Amazon associates.

Consumers can check whether Amazon Now is available in their area directly through the Amazon.in app. The service can be accessed via the dedicated “Now” lightning icon displayed on the app’s homepage.
