MediaTek MT6595 octa-core processor unveiled; competes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 and Samsung Exynos
After quad-core processors, octa-core processors might be the next big thing. While Qualcomm and Samsung have already unveiled their octa-core processors, it is now MediaTek’s turn to unveil an octa-core processor. This one is based on ARM Cortex-A17 chipset and will be targeting high-end devices. The MediaTek MT6595 Octa-core processor will come with 4 1.7 Cortex A7 cores which will work simultaneously along with 4 2.2-2.5 GHz A17 cores. All these will work in tandem with the Rogue PowerVR Series6 GPU.
ARM Cortex-A17 is said to improve performance by 60 percent, compared to current A9 processors available in the market. It is suited to not just the needs of new-age smartphones, but even Smart TVs and wearables.
