Google is slated to launch two Nexus smartphones this year which are made by HTC – codenamed Nexus Sailfish and Nexus Marlin. While specifications of both these smartphones have already been leaked earlier by reliable sources, the Nexus Sailfish has popped up on GFXBench giving us a better idea of what to expect.

According to the GFXBench listing, the device listed as Google Nexus Sailfish is powered by Snapdragon 820 SoC which is laced with 4 GB RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. It features a 5-inch Full-HD display which is said to be backed up by 2770 mAh battery.

The Nexus Sailfish offers 32 GB of internal storage and we hope this will be the storage space we will find on the base variant. We are saying this because Google is notorious for providing only 16 GB of storage in the base variants (remember Nexus 5X ?). Also, don’t get your hopes high for microSD card slot because that’s something Google stays away from.

The device also features a 12 MP camera at the back and an 8 MP camera on the front. The GFXBench listing doesn’t provide any proper information about the version of Android Sailfish is running on, but, given the fact that Android 7.0 Nougat is expected to release this month, we expect this year’s Nexus devices to be running on Nougat at the time of launch.

Both the Sailfish and Marlin are said to have fingerprint scanner at the back and are expected to feature fingerprint scanner gesture for opening notification shade. This year’s Nexus devices are also expected to feature a redesigned Nexus Launcher which won’t be having the app drawer icon that we are used to.

It’s also said that there won’t be any difference in terms of hardware and desgin between Nexus Sailfish and Nexus Marlin. The only difference between both these devices will be that of screen size. Nexus Marlin will be slightly bigger (with 5.5-inch Full-HD display) than Nexus Sailfish and will have a 3450 mAh battery.

Expected specifications of Nexus Sailfish:

  • CPU: 2.1 GHz Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • GPU: Adreno 530
  • Operating System: Android 7.0 Nougat expected
  • Display: 5-inch Full-HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display
  • Rear Camera: 12 MP with flash
  • Front Camera: 8 MP
  • Internal Storage: 32 GB
  • Other: USB Type-C, Fingerprint Scanner at the back, bottom-firing single/dual speakers, headphone jack at the top, Bluetooth 4.2
  • Battery: 2770 mAh
