Add MobiGyaan as a preferred source on GoogleOnePlus has unveiled ColorOS 17 in India, introducing a redesigned interface, improved system performance, and new system-level AI capabilities. ColorOS 17 is the company’s latest mobile operating system, first unveiled alongside the OnePlus 16, focusing on delivering a smoother experience over time, with features designed to handle complex tasks, improve photo editing, organise personal information, and strengthen privacy protection.

ColorOS 17 will debut on the OnePlus 15 in Q4 2026, followed by a progressive rollout to more OnePlus devices. As part of a change to its software strategy, OnePlus devices will transition from OxygenOS to ColorOS. The company says the move will streamline software development, accelerate update cycles, improve software quality, and make better use of shared engineering and R&D capabilities.

Living Flow Design | Unified Rendering Architecture | Improved Visual Smoothness

ColorOS 17 introduces the new Living Flow Design, built around three principles: Luminous Effect, Fluid Motion, and Flexible Feedback. Luminous Effect brings softer, more translucent visuals and subtle lighting that responds to touch. Fluid Motion aims to make interface elements move and transform seamlessly between states, while Flexible Feedback adds more responsive animations to buttons, toolbars, and other interactive elements.

These changes are designed to make interactions feel more natural across the system, including app transitions, Fluid Cloud, and everyday navigation. OnePlus has also introduced a Unified Rendering Architecture built on its refreshed Luminous Rendering Engine. By combining previously separate rendering processes into a unified pipeline, the company aims to deliver richer visual effects while reducing redundant operations.

According to OnePlus laboratory tests, ColorOS 17 reduces rendering loads by up to 30% and RAM usage for rendering by up to 25% in key scenarios compared with the previous generation.

Laminar Flow Engine | 55% Better App Launch Stability | Faster Gallery Loading

ColorOS 17 also upgrades the Laminar Flow Engine, an intelligent resource scheduling system built on OnePlus’ Adaptive Scheduling Architecture. It coordinates foreground and background workloads to maintain responsiveness during everyday use and demanding tasks.

OnePlus claims that app launch stability improves by 55%, while Gallery thumbnails load up to 50% faster on first launch compared with ColorOS 16. During multitasking, the system can also keep over 25% more apps running in the background, potentially reducing the need to reload applications when switching between them.

OnePlus is also highlighting long-term performance retention. In tests simulating six years of use, ColorOS 17 retained over 90% of its initial smoothness, even when storage was at 90% capacity. The company notes that actual performance may vary depending on hardware, software optimisation, network conditions, and usage habits.

OnePlus AI Mind Pilot | Agent Mode for Multi-Step Tasks

One of the major additions in ColorOS 17 is the expansion of OnePlus AI with system-level agentic capabilities. The upgraded AI Mind Pilot introduces a new Agent Mode that can work directly with photos and files stored on the device, search across multiple sources, use appropriate tools, and coordinate several steps to complete a task.

Agent Mode can find and organise scattered files, rename them based on their content and dates, and use information within those files to create outputs such as travel itineraries or webpages. It can also locate photos from a specific trip, sort them into albums, and turn a selected photo into a vlog cover or adapt it for other creative uses.

Rather than being limited to answering questions, the feature is designed to carry out workflows based on the user’s request, combining information and actions across multiple steps.

AI Photo Agent | Style Match for Smarter Photo Editing

ColorOS 17 introduces AI Photo Agent, which is designed to simplify photo editing while preserving the original scene’s natural appearance. With the new Style Match feature, users can provide a reference image, allowing the AI to analyse its color palette, tone, and overall mood before applying a similar look to another photo.

Users can also describe the changes they want in natural language. Alternatively, AI Photo Agent can analyse an image and recommend adjustments based on the subject and scene. These features are intended to make editing more accessible without requiring users to manually adjust every parameter.

AI Mind Space | Memory Collections and Personalised Trip Plans

AI Mind Space, OnePlus’ personal information hub, receives an upgrade in ColorOS 17. Users can save documents and video links, with AI recognising their contents and turning them into structured, searchable personal memories.

The new Memory Collections feature automatically groups related saved information into collections and summaries as the library grows. For travel planning, AI Mind Space can combine saved information with destination maps to create personalised trip plans based on the places, ideas, and details users have collected.

The update is intended to make saved information more useful over time, helping users retrieve relevant details and turn them into practical plans rather than leaving them scattered across different sources.

AI Mind Suggest | OSee Visual AI Assistant

ColorOS 17 also introduces AI Mind Suggest, which proactively surfaces information and services based on the situation. Its capabilities include morning briefs, travel reminders, and flight or train cards that display relevant journey information. It can also recommend music when headphones are connected.

Meanwhile, OSee brings OnePlus’ visual AI capabilities together in one place. Users can point the camera at an object or scene, and OSee can recognise what is in view and offer relevant services, including object recognition, knowledge lookup, nutrition analysis, high-definition scanning, and translation.

These features aim to reduce the need to switch between separate applications for different AI-powered tasks.

Private Computing Cloud | Post-Quantum Security | Transparency Report

OnePlus says privacy and data protection remain central to its AI features. Its Private Computing Cloud (PCC) uses end-to-end encryption for data involved in cloud-based AI processing and operates in a secure environment designed to prevent third-party access, including access by OnePlus.

ColorOS 17 further introduces post-quantum security capabilities in PCC. A dual-encryption mechanism is designed to protect data transmitted between the device and the cloud against emerging threats associated with quantum computing.

The update also adds a Transparency Report, giving users more visibility into how their data is processed. The report shows which AI services were used, when they were accessed, and what operations were performed. Users can view the report on their device and export it when required.

AI Call Guard | Real-Time Fraud Risk Detection

ColorOS 17 introduces AI Call Guard, a feature designed to identify potential fraud during phone calls. Using on-device AI detection, it monitors calls in real time for suspicious activity, including risks associated with synthetic voices and AI face swaps.

When suspicious activity is detected, the feature alerts users to help protect their communications and personal information. OnePlus has positioned AI Call Guard as part of its broader effort to combine AI-powered functionality with stronger privacy and security protections.

Note: Performance figures and long-term smoothness claims are based on OnePlus laboratory tests comparing ColorOS 17 with the previous version. Actual results may vary depending on device hardware, software optimisation, network conditions, and usage habits.
