Sony officially introduces the Xperia S in India

Sony has made it official and has launched the Xperia S smartphone in India. It is the first phone after the break-up of Sony Ericsson into Sony Mobile Communications. The company has also unveiled three other smartphones in the range namely the Xperia U, P and Sola which will be launched in the coming months.

The launch saw an amazing performance at the Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon, which was quite apt with Sony’s new strategy and tagline “Made to Imagine”.


Xperia-S The Xperia S is sleek looking handset with a nice and bright 4.3 inch display with Sony’s Bravia Engine technology. It is also the compnay’s first dual-core processor equipped handset clocking at 1.5 Ghz. At the back there is an amazing 12MP snapper which clicks really incredible pictures and also full 1080p HD videos.

The specs of the Xperia S include:

  • 12.1 megapixel camera with auto focus, 1.3 MP front facing camera
  • 4.3 inch scratch-resistant TFT touchscreen, 16 million colours, 1280 x 720 pixels
  • 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Dual Core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) (Upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich coming soon)
  • HDMI out
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • 1750mAh battery

It will come in white and black and is priced at Rs. 32,549. Check out some first hands-on pictures of the smartphone over here.
