Two weeks ago, we told you that Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi was expected to launch the Redmi Note 5 in India this month. Well now, the company has confirmed that it is indeed launching a new smartphone in India this month, i.e., on February 14.

Xiaomi has started sending out press invites to the media for a launch event that’s scheduled on February 14. The invite doesn’t reveal anything about the phone that’s going to be launched in India on February 14, and, all it has is number ‘5’.

Well, this is going to be the first smartphone that Xiaomi will launch in India in 2018. While there’s no word from Xiaomi yet on which smartphone it’s going to launch in India next week, the company is expected to launch the Redmi Note 5 in the country.

The Redmi Note 5 hasn’t been launched yet, even in China, however, rumors from last December hint at the company launching the Redmi 5 Plus as Redmi Note 5 in markets outside of China. For those unaware, the Redmi 5 Plus was launched in China last December. It is powered by Snapdragon 625 SoC which is paired with up to 4 GB RAM.

The smartphone has smaller bezels and sports a 5.99-inch display that has an aspect ratio of 18:9 and a resolution of 2160 x 1440 pixels. The Redmi 5 Plus comes with 12 MP camera at the back and a 5 MP camera on the front. In terms of storage, the 3 GB RAM variant has 32 GB of internal storage whereas the 4 GB RAM variant has 64 GB of storage. Lastly, powering this entire package is a huge 4000 mAh battery.

Having said that, if Xiaomi is indeed launching the Redmi 5 Plus as Redmi Note 5 in India, the least we would like to see is upgraded processor. Last year’s Redmi Note 4, which has been immensely successful in India, too came with Snapdragon 625 chip underneath.

With that being said, we also can’t deny the possibility of Xiaomi actually launching the Redmi 5 or Redmi 5 Plus (or both) in India next week instead of Redmi Note 5.

Whatever it’s going to be, we will know more about it on February 14.
